Super Trowel Masters 2025 Terms and Conditions for Applicants
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be qualified bricklayers with a minimum Level 3 qualification in brickwork.
- Applicants must have completed at least five years of experience as a bricklayer in a construction setting post-training.
- All applicants must submit evidence of their qualifications and work history at the time of application.

Application Process
- The application process consists of three stages: Stage 1 (Eligibility and Exam), Stage 2 (Design Submission), and Stage 3 (Final Competition).
Stage 1 - Eligibility and Brickwork Exam
- Applicants will be required to complete a brickwork exam after eligibility is confirmed.
- The exam will be conducted online and will consist of 26 questions, with a total of 40 points available.
- Applicants must score at least 36 points (90%) to progress to Stage 2.
- The exam must be completed in a single sitting within 45 minutes.
- Each applicant is allowed only one attempt at the exam.
- Super Trowel will appoint independent judges to assess eligibility and completed exam papers.

Stage 2 - Design Submission
- Successful applicants from Stage 1 will be required to submit a brickwork design.
- The design must incorporate between 500 and 750 bricks and include specified details and finishes (outlined below).
- The design must be capable of being built within 10 hours, over two consecutive days.
- The working area for the design and construction process cannot exceed 3 meters by 3 meters.
Design Criteria
- The design must include at least two different types of bonds, chosen from the provided list.
- The design must include at least two distinct joint finishes, chosen from the provided list.
- The design must feature one decorative panel.
- The design must incorporate an axed segmental or semi-circular arch with a span not exceeding 685 millimetres.
- Bricks must be laid both horizontally and vertically.
- The design must include one projected and one recessed element.
- The design must have at least one change of direction and a curved feature, either in plan or elevation.
- An element of tumbling in or battered brickwork must be included.
- Any temporary formwork must be removable before judging.
Bonds
- A minimum of two bonds from the following list must be included in the design:
- Flemish bond
- English bond
- Stack bond
- Header bond
- Monk bond
Joint Finishes
- A minimum of two joint finishes from the following list must be included in the design:
- Recessed
- Weather struck
- Weather struck and cut
- Birdsmouth or V

Judging Criteria for Stage 2
- Independent judges will assess submitted designs based on compliance with the design criteria, creativity, aesthetic value, and conformity to the build process.
- The top 4 designs will advance to Stage 3, the Super Trowel final in 2025.
General Terms
Independent Judges: Super Trowel reserves the right to appoint independent judges for all stages of the competition. All decisions made by the judges are final.
Disqualification: Any applicant found to have falsified information or breached the competition guidelines may be disqualified at the discretion of the Super Trowel management team.
Intellectual Property: By entering the competition, applicants agree that all submitted designs may be used for promotional or educational purposes by Super Trowel.
Privacy and Data Protection: Personal data collected during the application process will be used solely for competition-related purposes and will be handled in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
Health and Safety: All applicants must adhere to relevant health and safety guidelines during all stages of the competition.

Changes to Terms: Super Trowel reserves the right to modify or update these terms and conditions at any time. Applicants will be notified of any changes in a timely manner.
